Countryman UK

OUR VISION

That all men are given the opportunity to participate in healthy, active and social activities in a safe and supported countryside environment to the benefit of their physical and mental wellbeing.

What's happening?

We are engaging with men who have previously had an affinity with the outdoor environment through their work, leisure activities or just a love of the countryside, but who are now facing the challenges of being isolated because of deteriorating physical or mental health or changing social conditions, whether they are from rural areas or urban.

Our slogan, “Getting back to being you” reflects our belief that getting back to countryside environments overcomes isolation and has a positive impact on physical health and mental wellbeing.

The Sessions

There is no charge for the session as it is covered by a grant.  However, small voluntary contributions are welcome, as we receive no government or council funding.  The sessions run from 1.30 until 3.30 on Monday afternoons, but times do change during Autumn/Winter.  The session also includes a dog walk, a cuppa with a piece of cake and perhaps a game of Croquet or Boules.

Our care farm has a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, where people can benefit from the therapeutic use of farming practises, including working with animals and growning fruit and vegetables.

Spreading the word as well as the model

The model for Countrymen UK was inspired by the success of the Countrymen Club at the Future Roots Care Farm in Dorset.

They have taken the successful model and are sharing it with others in the UK, giving us the tools, training and support to get our Countrymen UK Group up and running.

"Since joining Countrymen, I find that my words are easier to find".
